Clunes Booktown for Kids – “a world before vegemite”
and featuring the Children’s Village of Lost Trades
Program and Tickets available AUGUST.
The early 1900s is a world before vegemite. A time when the first teddy bears, cellophane, crayons, cornflakes, crosswords, paper notepads, and radio were invented. It was a time Australia became a federation and a time we fought in the Great War. Its an amazing time to take as our kid’s Booktown theme. And to add to the excitement around 20 skilled trades people will demonstrate their “lost trades” in a specially constructed Children’s Village of Lost Trades.
Schools’ Day Friday Oct 31 …….. Family Day Saturday Nov 1
Some of our writers and illustrators who will be coming….. Ann James, Craig Smith, Hazel Edwards, Andrew Plant, Claire Saxby, Krista Bell, Jackie Kerin, Judith Rossell, Mark Wilson, Sheryl Clarke, Mark Greenwood, Frane Lessac, and Mark Carthew. Program and tickets available August.
The village of Clunes is famous for its bookshops. From the collectables to the bargains, from the small shops to the large shops stocking thousands of titles.
In April 2012 Clunes gained International Organisation of Booktowns membership, becoming the 15th international booktown and the only booktown in the southern hemisphere.
Clunes is located 36 km north of Ballarat (30 minutes by car), and 142 km north-west of Melbourne (90 minutes by car).
